simple - its the single "nut" on the rotor mast coming up from the transmission of a helicopter that holds the rotor blades assembly on. If you are in the air in the helicopter, and if it comes off, it's time for you to meet Jesus.

What is a "Jesus Nut"?  
The correct term is the main rotor retaining nut, but basically if it comes off in flight your going to see your maker!  
Here is a pic of one on a UH-1B model rotor head (red arrow). Note the eye in the top for attaching cables and the like.

Dan you left off the bulls eye on the green house plexiglass. Thats where an AD would always put through when changing a rotor head.
