So I am watching the story about the Marine UH-1 that is missing in Nepal....a UH-1. .. has four rotor blades? Why do the Marines have UH-1's....every other branch has variations of the HH60's
the way I remember it, the Army tried to force the Marines to buy the Blackhawk. The Marines told the Army to stuff it. They wanted their aging hueys and cobras upgraded with same engines and transmission ect, as Ken Lowe said.
Bob, that is a picture of an Air Force Pave Hawk HH-60. They support Special Operations activity. The Army 160th SOAR flies a similar BlackHawk. What you see is a refuel probe. They can slip up to a C-130 tanker and get a fill up in flight.
When the Blackhawk made its appearance in the Army 30 some years ago, the story was going around that when they flew the last "hawk" to the bone yard there would be a Huey there to pick up the crew.
