This post was updated on .
This was taken from Nov 1968 "All Hands". It was made from converted LST's and called "Mobile Base II" and was stationed on the Long Tau River to patrol the Dong Nai River East of Saigon.
Maybe that will help to determine which Det was on it?

That would be Det-5. We flew off PBR Mobile Base II in that time frame.

I'm good. The last time I saw you there was a parrot on your shoulder and you were living on your boat. I think it was one of the Charleston reunions. I hope you and your family are well, have a Happy Thanksgiving. Are you going to Savannah next year?

I hope to be back in the states by then and I will attend. I have been living in the Rainforest in Panama for the last ten years and its time for a change.  I still have a parrot on my shoulder. Glad you and yours are all doing well.

No, what is shown in the picture are not converted LSTs, those were specifically built barges for the Mobile Riverine Bases, the LSTs remained whole throughout the war and were eventually transferred to the Vietnamese. I flew in Det 1 onboard Harnett County and Hunterndon County from 03/38 to 03/69, my call sign Seawolf  13..
