SEAWOLF GUNSHIP FLEW THE MISSION FOR STAYTONS MEMORIAL

Bill Rutledge
What an Honor to fly again to HONOR SEAWOLF NORM STAYTON  at the Riverside National cemetary for Norms service,  with the Pilots from Wings and Rotors , Msgt Pat Rodgers, and Col Carl k. Allen and Maintainer the Young USMC SGT ,, The Gunners SR CHIEF FRAZIER AND MYSELF av. Age is 74 and the Pilots ave Age 63 so we had to bring a young Marine for protection and medical if needed, the crew has over 100 years of militay service and they young marine added 8 More years of service including multiple tours in Afhanistan and Iraq,

We flew 3 low and slow passes over the gathering , i wanted to drop flowers but was restricted by the Cemetary, I was told our timing was perfect and that Norms 4 year old granddaughter thought Norm was in the bird with us as she waved  us,  and in fact his spirit was with us

,  It was the smoothest best flight i have ever taken, This is the second time we have used the Huey for such an event , the other was when we dropped Seawolf gunner Earl Kennedys ashes of the coast of Point loma National cemetary

Chief, thank you so much to you and chief Frazier, and the rest of the crew and 321 for the wonderful sendoff for Norm, I know it meant the world to Cyndi and her family and friends for a presentation matched by only what a Seawolf can do. once again, thank you and Cmdr Howell and the others for being the foundation that our association was started and built upon, bringing us all together as a unit once again, so we may have opportunities such as this to honor Seawolf.  love ya chief

The flyover was more than awesome! Here's a few Seawolves who witnessed that fantastic sight and unmistakable sound. It was a touching ceremony and fine salute Norm Stayton. I was honored to feel the pride among these Brothers.  ....

Very nice tribute gentlemen (loosely used). Must have been a bittersweet flyby. Most of us did what we had to do--how many of us would have chosen to do what Norm chose to do--jump out of the huey into a flaming river to try to save a shipmate--truly the right stuff--Navy cross stuff! Rest in peace Norm.
