Today I had a C&P in OKC --- my scheduled examiner was sick so I was quickly fit in with another examiner. When we reached the examination room, he introduced himself as Dr Tran ------ you got it guys, my Dr is/was a Vietnamese who came from Saigon ---- who would have thunk it ?? seems like a full circle to me !

Mike a few years ago I made friends with a young soldier, one of the boat people. His family was Chinese from the Colon area, his father was an official in Nuyen Van Thieu (sp?) government. They escaped with nothing, lived in camps in PI and eventually made it to Calif. Educated in America, this young man, a Night Stalker, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment is a very proud American and an example to us all. That's my story.

I've met some others that had unbelievable stories too ----- and also proud to be Americans ---- hopefully things will straighten up and they will have something to be proud of

Good luck Mike!! I hope it works well for you.... may be the first C&P with someone that may actually understand and know just what's what. Better than the ones you want to beat the crap out of in the first minute you start talking with them.

I hope you are right , Howard -- we'll see ---

Hope this is Mike Dobson from Det 1. You're not likely to remember me, Larry Hines, as I was not one of the gunners. I merely helped out with the fuel and ordnance from December 1970 through August or September 1971 when I was transferred up to Nha Be for my final three months in Country. Regardless, hope your new doctor is taking good care of you.

Mike,
Thanks for your response. Where in Oklahoma do you live? I had a Great Uncle who was a banker up in Guyman and I was raised in eastern CO and west Kansas. I graduated High School in Colby. Our son lives in Albuquerque, NM so we travel through OK on I-40 periodically when we drive out to see him.
We, my wife and I, have settled in Macon, Georgia. After Nam, I still had more than two years left in the Navy which I spent at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. There, I finally got to start flying as a SAR swimmer/crew chief. I worked for the Navy for four more years as a civilian before entering the Border Patrol: 7 years in El Paso, TX and one in Tampa, Florida. I then transferred into the criminal investigations branch of INS (now Homeland Security) where I was assigned to offices in Cleveland, OH, Grand Junction, CO, Denver, CO and finally in Atlanta, GA where I retired in 2002 as the Section Chief of the CID. One year later I was in Baghdad as a Senior Police Advisor to the Ministry of Interior for Immigration and Customs operations. After returning to the States, I did some consulting for the Army's Battle Command Trng. Pgm. at various Army Posts and some corporate stuff regarding employer requirements relating to legal workforces. Now, I guess I'm retired. That's it in a nutshell.
How about you? I've often thought of you, especially the short lived operation from the LST where, after the op was called off, I was left on the ship so the helicopters could transport San Miguel beer back to Solid Anchor. (I think it took two days for anyone to remember that I was still on the ship and came back for me.) I lost touch with everyone from Solid Anchor. Besides you, the names I remember are Richard Keith, Mike Eltman and LPO Stark who did become a CPO and was also assigned to NAS Jacksonville. The only pilots I remember by name are LTJG Nelson who I bumped into at NAS JAX after he'd become a LCDR and LT Bonner who I believe was from Texas.
It is really good to hear from you and I hope that you and your family are all doing well. Please stay in touch and if you ever find yourself in middle GA, please drop in.
