Combat Photographer looking for verification of VN Service

Mike Dobson
I am in contact with a combat photographer that is in need of verification that he was in VN.   His records are no better than many of ours, and he is having trouble with the VA. Gary Turner was filming the Seawolves during 68 and has been able to pinpoint the Hunderton and Terrill County during May of 68 .   He has the following names from that time that were with Det 1   ----ADJ3 Gardiner, LTJG Anzalone, LTJG Bolsun, Wobbe - door gunner, Miller - pilot     He was awarded a Air Medal, but the citation says "against insurgents in SE Asia " so the VA says that doesn't count ------ he was there for, or on one of our birds that landed with holes in the windshield and in the blades  --- he did send me pictures of that ------  I am convinced he was there, anyone remember a photographer with still and 16 mm camera ???

I was filmed in May - June 1968 time period by a Navy Photographer. Glenn Wilson and I were both filmed on a mission, and the short films were supposed to be sent to each of our hometown TV stations. KYW TV in Philadelphia received and aired a short film and sent it to my parents, unfortunately when my folks got the film, it was Glenn Wilson's, not mine. I don't know if Wilson's folks got my film or of it was shown in Oakland area TV.

I still have the original film reel of Glenn Wilson and have had it down-loaded to CD. I also sent it to Glenn's parents and sent a copy to the Glenn L Wilson, SEAWOLF, American Legion Post 746 in Cottonwood CA.

I can't verify the Photo-Mate by name, but I can verify that I was filmed and can prove that Glenn Wilson was filmed.

Hope this could be helpful..

I had a photographer fly with my crew around that time frame. I remember I had trailing ammo from the port flex gun and had to climb out on the pylon to fix it. The photographer thought that was cool and filmed me fixing the flex gun. Never got his name. He took the name of the local TV station and told me that it would be on the news, but it never was.

Thanks Mike and Rick ---- Gary is, I'm convinced, the real deal ---- he is now going over the 16 mm he took and has in his possession -----   Would you believe he has a MACV authorization card to use to get transportation as needed when traveling in VN and the VA won't recognize it !!!  picture and all ------   He has some names that are checking true -----    We are going to need some letters soon from all that remember him, or a combat photographer being there -----

Mike - tell him to contact his senator and congressman and to call the House Veterans committee and talk to the Disability and Memorial Affairs subcommittee staff.  Ridiculous that VA will not recognize his documents as proof...just some brain dead b'crat in action.

..Rick.. I would enjoy seeing that CD of Glenn, we became pretty good friends whence going thru Roseburg VA Hospital inpatient 30 day PTSD program... Two wolves in the mental program was a kick.. others had no idea, (Jar-heads & Army dogs) that the NAVY had GunShips in the Nam... Glenn and I opened eyes about that...

.. A photographer came out to SOD after we was blown away and film'd us Det 6 folks.. Neighbors bak home told my Mom they had seen me on the TV... I never saw it myself. The photographer came and went during my SOD time.. I thought he was CIA... always on a black helo with no marks.. crew member took whatever he wanted, spooky folks.

Absolutely Mike !!   BTW, If you got my phone message, I complied with your request to find a good home for the Seawolf Blue Ray ------ it is now directly into the hands of Allen West , along with a copy of the Resolution, and a Challenge coin ----------  if you haven't been in his presence, a talk (speech) by him is amazing ---- I drove nearly 175 miles to hear him ---- absolutely worn every mile !!!!!    I hope you agree with my choice

Mike - sounds like a good choice.  I checked him on You Tube.  Just as good a speaker as when he was in the House.  Thanks for taking care of it.
