Capt. Robert "Bob" Spencer

Russell Robinson
Reviewing the latest Seawolf Association roster I found that Capt. Robert "Bob" Spencer now lives less than 10 minutes from me here in Louisiana. I very briefly met the Spencer's years ago at a reunion, I did not serve wtih him, but I have read about him and his time in HAL-3 in the book "Fire From The Sky."  I contacted him by phone and after chatting a while, he said he would rather be called Bob or Robert, verses Captain. We agreed to get together and I met him at his home yesterday. He is currently 87, he is "sharp as a tack," his memory is great, he does have some health issues but he has daughters living nearby that keep an eye on him.  He lost his wife within the past year and he is currently living alone.  He is in great spirits, he loves to talk about the navy and his beloved Seawolves, and he enjoys learning about others.  He mentioned how he really enjoys his periodic telephone calls from Tony Huntley.  So Tony, keep it up!    Visiting with "Bob" was very enjoyable and I see many more visits in our future.  I highly encourage everyone to give Bob a call and I'm certain you will both find it up lifting.
Later my friends,
Russell Robinson

Russell, g'day, I have been in telephone touch with Captain Spencer since 1997. We talk about once or twice a month. He was the man who stuck his neck out to allow me to fly with you blokes in 66-67.
