The RNZAF had a different technique for doing full auto rotations. I was in VXE-6 in 76-79 and we had an exchange program with the RNZAF. They would send a couple pilots and crew chiefs to McMurdo to fly in our H-1Ns for a couple weeks and we would send the same north to NZ to fly in their H-1Ds. Their procedure was to do a zero airspeed auto in which upon throttle cut, they held the nose up to get zero airspeed and then start down with a very slight flare at the bottom. It worked but it was very uncomfortable.
