My dad, Ray Lazo was on the ground there at Vinh-long during the '68 Tet and he said the ground fighting was just as fierce as getting in the air. They were so loaded with ammo they had to take off going length wise down the runway, all the while taking fire directly in front of them from the top of two buildings at the end of the runway. Once they got enough air they had to fly sideways between the two buildings and then my dad would turn the chopper so the gunner had a clear shot to clear the rooftops and then go about spreading more love and cheer. They repeated this process for days my dad says. I'm sure he had to have known this Lt. .
