I was a newbee, in the right door, with a mounted 60. Sonny Lay was in the middle training me. Red, I believe the best 50 gunner I ever saw, was on the right. Red fell somehow and was dangling below the skid by his gunners belt. Sonny pulled Red in, then had a huge belly laugh.
I WAS OUT THE DOOR ONE FOOT ON ROCKET POD, ONE ON SKID BUT NO CHOICE OF MINE,
Oh M-60 LEFT HAND PU--Y POLE IN RIGHT HAND AFTER IT WENT THROUGH THE GREEN HOUSE WINDOW ABOVE C0-PILOT. WE PULLED OUT AT 50 FEET ABOVE A RICE PADDY. I LOST TWO GUNNERS THAT DAY BUT PEREZ CAME BACK AFTER HEALING. DONT WANT TO EVER GET THAT CLOSE TO EATING A RICE PADDY AGAIN.
