compensation thru the VA

christine
Hello,
My husband served 2 tours as a SeaWolf helicopter pilot. He is now disabled
due to back problem and hearing loss due to his service.  I want to see if we
can get compensation thru the VA.  He was told that because he was based
on a Navel ship and not officially "in country" that he is not eligible. Is this true?
Has anyone gone through this that can help me?
Thank you.

Some one is giving you some wrong information... you first should get a good rep to fight for you. Just by being in the  military alone makes him eligible for benefits.  Start gathering every bit of information about his service from day 1 to day of retirement or separation from service.  There are plenty of Seawolf brothers out there that will be able to help you.  Just never give up.

Christine,
Didn't say who your husband is, but contact our Seawolf Veterans Service Director, Bill Pressey. He was also a Seawolf Helicopter Pilot and will tell you he IS eligible. He will give you all the info you need. His number is (541) 915-5517.

There is also a page here on our website with info at:
http://www.seawolf.org/va/va.asp

Including a letter regarding back pain in the Naval Rotary Wing Community:

if he was a Seawolf pilot he was IN Country, it would help if we had his name rank and date where we can give more info and help.

Thank you, all of you.  In regards to Bill's post, I believe my husband was discharged on March 19th, 1970.
