Does anyone know or have a map showing coordinances (i can't spell worth a crap) in our AO in Vietnam? I'm trying to locae subject province: VR976131, An Xuyen Province.
Going through some of my "old stuff" I came across a "Special Southeast Asia Tactical VFR Chart" which shows IV Corps where we flew. The scale is 1:500,000, a much smaller scale than we used because it covers a much larger area. Thus I had to interpolate where VR976131 lies (southwest of CaMau). To do that I located the vertical VR8 which is along the western shoreline then a unlabeled vertical line which would probably be VR9. I next located the horizontal 0 and 2 lines. 1 is probably the unlabeled line in between. I then "boxed" the square of VR9&1. Inside it is 976131 which I marked with a dot inside a circle. I then scanned it and tried unsuccessfully to attach it. The Province An Xuyen is not mentioned.
My email address is jimjoyce88@hotmail.com. I'm not sure if what I have helps but if you send me an email I will send it to you. Jim Joyce
Thanks Jim. Dan Stokes and several others came up with the actual maps we used back then and we were able to locate the coordinates. Didn't show that actual proviience name though. This was where we had one super bad assed fire fight 8 Feb 70. It was a hornets nest and probably NVA. Lucky they didn't have a .51 cal then. I was interested in this because that same area is where Dan and his crew got shot down and it was crawling with NVA. I believe they got hit with a .51. They were lucky to get out as the bad guys were so close they could hear them talking and hear the brush moving as they walked/ran through it to get to them.
