The Association Welcomes LIFE/FAM Member:
(08/31/2015)
LIFE Membership of DAT Seawolf Ronald Lee TOWNER (ROH), AO2, Det 5, 7/21/1968 to 7/19/1969 is hereby transferred to his Brother Thomas E. TOWNER as LIFE/FAM (non-voting). Tom resides in Bushnell, FL.
Tom had sent an application for FAM Membership and included a check with additional money as donation, but as Ron’s remaining immediate family member, his membership was changed to LIFE/FAM as allowed in the By-Laws.
Tom was also in the Navy from 1974-1980 and was a Plank Owner on USS David R. Ray (DD-971). He said he felt honored to serve on it, as it was named after HM2 David Robert Ray, who was KIA in Vietnam on March 19, 1969 while his brother Ron was serving in Vietnam with the Seawolves.
USS David R. Ray (DD-971)HM2 David Robert Ray(Navy Corpsman Ray's final act of heroism was to protect a Marine he was treating after he had run out of ammunition holding back the enemy. He placed himself upon the wounded Marine after he saw a grenade land near them. By doing so, he saved the Marine's life and lost his own when the grenade exploded.)
As a side note, Tom said the Association really turned Ron around. Said he virtually came out of his shell and really enjoyed the Brotherhood of his Seawolves!Dan
