**** Just received a call from the wife of Plank Owner Seawolf Douglas Wayne AINSWORTH, AMH2, Gunner, Det 2 6/15/1967 to 3/14/1968. (Retired as AMHC)
She said Doug passed away 15 May 2015 surrounded by family. He was cremated;
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV. The family requests no flowers. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com.
Doreen said he flew on Det 2 with Dick Stanger. After Doug came back from HA(L)-3 she said he was sent back over on the USS Kirk for the evacuation of Saigon. She said he received the Purple Heart during the evacuation when he was wounded and spent 2 months in NAVHOSP Yokuska, Japan. Due to an operation he had, he was left legally blind.
He passed away from Sepsis after a recent operation.
Doug was an Association Member since 1998.
