Sealords

Howard Jacobs ROH
I've been seeing names of people that were with Sealords the same time I flew with Sealords. There are many that do not sound familiar to me nor remember them flying as a crewman on Sealords.  Could someone explain that to me?  I must be missing something or just don't remember.... I can remember those that flew on a daily basis but not these men.  I must really be getting old.....  of all the things I've lost I guess I miss my mind the most.

Memory and your mind are terrible things to lose Howard...

And you're only 2 weeks older than me so it's not that you're old!

Re: Sealords

STUBBY
Some were aircrewmen who flew as collateral duty such as maint test flights, riggers and just to get their flight pay,  take your pick.

The flight time I had was gotten in the manner you described Stubby.  I wanted flight time and pay but  most of all I hoped to get a Det.  I just about made it and was to go out to Det 2 or 7 in January but after stand-down was announced, all flights with guys like me were stopped.  Experienced crewman coming off of Dets as they came back in flew instead, until they were on their way back to the US. Once in a while I flew out to deliver "whatever" to a Det like 5 or 1 etc.

Re: Sealords

The flights I made were mostly maintenance ones - to see if all of  the parts had been put back on right and it flew straight enough for regular use!

Re: Sealords

It seemed like most in Hal-3 wanted to fly, but resigned themselves to maintenance if they didn't get "door gunner's school" at Ruckers or where ever (I don't know of any others).  It was hard to get flights and on-the-job training at BT - there were so many volunteering.  Getting shot at must have been appealing to some of us then!

Howie and Zach - did you two go through AO"A" School together?  For some reason I always thought both of you went to HAL-3 straight out of AO School and SERE.  It seemed like many got to the Seawolves that way, but then some like Sam Ward, myself, Arbuckle & Hubbard went to another Squadron for 18 months before SERE & Vietnam.

I went to AO-A school in the fall of 69....  I was sent to NAS Brunswick after school then to SERE about a year later.  I don't believe I went with Zach..... Charlie Morris and Jim Wall were in my AO class.

I think I met Charlie Morris right before he left country, but I'm not sure.  I got there on Aug. 4, 1971 and Jim Wall had been killed before that.

John,  Nelson, Carmody, Zachary and myself went to AO A school together and then to HAL-3 with stops at Aberdeen Proving Grounds for UH=1 Armament Framp then SERE.  There were 2 others also but names escape me

Thanks Bill, I thought some of the Ordies went to Hal-3 out of "A" School but couldn't remember who for sure.  A few of us put in for it on our "dream" sheets in A school too, then Hubbard, Arbuckle and myself got it 18 months later after a tour (Sam Ward and I) at China Lake, with Hubbard and Buck out of Miramar.
