The Purple Heart Cane ceremony hill be held Jan 20th 2018 at the Navy SEAL Museum in Fort Pierce Fla.. This year three Seawolves will be receiving canes.
This is still in the works but I am told the Army band will be there. A DC3 painted the way they were for Normandy will do a fly over like last year. A caterer will do a luncheon for the Cane receipitant and one person.
To receive a free cane you must attend or have a person receive it for you.
Good place to stay is the Road Runner Camp Ground 5500 St Lucie Blvd Fort Pierce. They have full hook up RV sites, cabins and villas for rent.
I'm proud to say that I will be receiving one; quite an honor with some pretty notable other recipients. My son is also getting one at the same time for wounds received outside Baghdad when the Humvee he was driving got blasted by a big IED.
Looking forward to it.
Just curious - who are the other 2 Seawolves?
My deceased father also got one in WW2 on the carrier Bunker Hill when it got hit by a Kamikaze. Guess my whole family is not very good at ducking !!!
Congratulations Mike to you and your son. I remember when you came back from that mission and had taken the round in your right thigh if I recall correctly as we clustered around the bird. You were not feeling much joy but had much to be joyful for... the family jewels intact. That beaded necklace gave you good karma for a bad situation that day. Humbling to be doing this with your son at the same time. I hope his outcome was as good as yours given the circumstances. It will be an emotional day for you both.
Mike i remember that when it happened and Don took over, all I remember is all the way back to Solid Anchor was you yeiing over the air . My nuts, my nuts" Anyway good luck getting your cane. SW35
