Poem, A Man Returns

Ben Smitty Smith
Found this poem my mom had written just after I returned from Nam.  Thought I would share it with the brotherhood.                                                                                                                                          A Man Returns by Joy E Smith  1931-2006                                                                                                                                                  The tired lines around the eyes, tells the true story behind the smiles.                                                                                                                                               The restless pacing of the floor shows the terrible marks of war.                                                                                                                                                   A man returns to the ones he loves, and kneels and prays to his God above.                                                                                                                                                Thanks be to him for life and limb, but with laden heart he remembers his friends                                                                                                                                                Who will never again walk the earth  green or smell the rain so cool and clean.                                                                                                                                                 With gas pedal pressed to the floor, he tries to erase it forever more.                                                                                                                                                 But there is no escaping this terrible pain, no longer the world will be the same.                                                                                                                                                 The depths of hell a boy falls in, and a man returns with mankinds sins.
