Info from Jim Fuller: Due to circumstances beyond our control the a helicopter dedication for April 17 at the museum has been postponed. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule for the fall when restrictions are lifted on the base. Below is an explanation from NAS Pensacola of why the restrictions were put in place.
NAS Pensacola had ramped up its security posture in response to a breach here earlier this month and was already requiring museum guests to go to the Visitor Control Center at the Main Gate for vetting before proceeding to the West Gate for entry. Additional security measures were announced yesterday in response to a separate incident at McDill Air Force Base last week. As of today, public access with vetting is restricted to weekends. Per our deputy director, the HA(L)-3 Association has elected to postpone the event until the base loosens some of the restrictions. Unfortunately, we do not know how long this situation will last.
That should give everyone plenty of time to upgrade your drivers license to a REAL ID, so you won't have any complications getting on the base when we do reschedule this dedication.
