New prostate cancer testing:
Well I waited a little while before posting this.. I had a check up with my urologist reference to my prostate cancer. I have had the cancer for about 3 years and have only had biopsy's because it's non aggressive and small. My PSA was elevated this year but it hasn't go up a certain amount to be a problem so there will be no biopsy this year. He said that next year I will be a candidate for a new procedure in checking the prostate for cancer. I will have an MRI which can show aggressive cancer and also cancer like I have. Then I will have the biopsy right after the MRI... the doctor will have the picture of the MRI and will use the view he has for the biopsy that will go right over the MRI picture. It will show the exact area or areas that my doctor will use to take the biopsy. So he will not have to take the several biopsys like before to check the entire prostate but only take the area shown on the MRI. The sample will be taken for testing and they will also do a DNA on that sample. The DNA sample will only take minutes now with the use of computers and will be able to provide information for any type of treatment available. He gave an example of a patient that he had with bladder cancer and was on the same medication that a female was taking for lung cancer because they have the same DNA. So there may be a medication or treatment that I can get to treat my cancer. He also said that DNA is going to be the big thing coming up in medical diagnosis and treatment. He further said that newborns will have their DNA's tested to see if they may have certain genes for certain deseases and will be able to be watched for such problems as they grow.
I wonder if the VA is going to do such treatment... I am not going to the VA for this treatment... I'm seeing an outside doctor that I trust.
I had to share this with all my Brothers out there that have prostate cancer like myself from AO and any other men that have the cancer.
