No, my relation emigrated to Minnesota from Bavaria then moved south. I was an E-4 Navy NOC operator from Wisconsin.
The only contact I had with the Air Force was Black Ponies for ground support and TAC air for 500 pounders.
Rich, I realize looking at Dan Arnes master roster you are not a Seawolf. Misssed that on first pass. Who were you with? Navy or Army? I do not recall that handle. Det 7 operated periodically out of Moc Hoa into Parrot's peak region of Cambodia. Det 4 may as well. I think April and May 70 and then in June we went into Cambodia seeking the remains of a Det 3 Seawolf pilot lost in Cambodia in April of 68. I think they were oping our of Moc Hoa at the time. I have a citation for that search that only says June 1970. I remember it was an outpost where we worked with the Green Beret and had Cambodian Mercinaries. It was my first experience seeing mercernaries with ears of the enemies worn around their necks. It had the desired effect. Don't mess with us. We didn't. We often slept in the hueys keeing guard and getting little sleep. I was a gunner so a doer not a decider from an tactical or operational perspective. I would guess our O's have a better idea from a operational perspective and may know your handle. I was recruited to Det 1 in late June of 70 so I do not have any idea if there were more operations by Seawolfs in Moc Hoa but based on your post I guess yes. Welcome home and thanks for remembering us.
I was a Navy NOC operator who worked with the PBR boats to get them the support they needed. I continually monitored more freqs than the main boat freq to see who was around. When I was leaving the hospital at Can To/Bin Thuy an OV-10 was pointed out to me and that it was a Black Pony and Air Force. The reason I wrote on this blog is in case anyone remembered "Duckfern." After awhile those doing a flyby would check in with me for I always had something to hit. An Army bird colonel came by "to meet the fellow who got so much air cover in the area."
