A few weeks ago I posted a picture of my AOCS class when we got commissioned on 8 March 1968. Rich Parker, Joe Cook, Phil Cronck, Larry Wood and I were in this class and ended up in HA(L)-3 in 69-70.
I received a reply from a guy who said: "A group of us including Lt. Peter L. Huntting went to the Naval Air Museum and there was a Huey from HAL-3 I believe hanging from the ceiling, and Pete said that was what he flew in Vietnam. It was the first time he ever mentioned being in Nam. He would never talk about it. His wife said that he would not get his medals, so I never pushed him one it." In a follow up this guy said "his wife said that when Pete applied to the VA that he had to jump through a bunch of hoops to get approved because a lot of his navy records had been redacted. I seem to remember him saying that he flew SEAL teams on missions. I also remember him saying that he flew the helicopters that the Navy said we didn't have."
I've been working with Dan Arnes, our chief sleuth and keeper of the roster, and he has no record of a Peter L. Huntting being in HA(L)-3. Does anyone out there remember this guy? He would have been there in late 68 or early 69.
Peter L. Huntting passed away Dec 5, 2014 from an aortic aneurysm. His ashes are in a crypt at Miramar.
Looking for help!
