Lt Anzalones Tet encounter

Brad Trooper Simpson
I enjoyed the story by Lt. Anzalon3 about flying in and outmof Vinh Long.  I mwas one of the guys onmthe riverbase that was cut off from the air field.  We went down on the morningmof Feb 1 to releive the guysa who had been there for 24 hours.  Those guys never got back out the gate.  They evaced with us to,tge USS Garrett County three days later.  If you thinkmit was wild in the air you should have been atmthe river base on the ground. Lol..  actually hats off to the Seawolves, you guys were the best and saved my cookies several times.
If anyone know Lt. Simpson, from North Carolina,  seawolf based at Vinh Long airfield october 67  to septemger 68?

My dad, Ray Lazo was on the ground there at Vinh-long during the '68 Tet and he said the ground fighting was just as fierce as getting in the air. They were so loaded with ammo they had to take off going length wise down the runway, all the while taking fire directly in front of them from the top of two buildings at the end of the runway.  Once they got enough air they had to fly sideways between the two buildings and then my dad would turn the chopper so the gunner had a clear shot to clear the rooftops and then go about spreading more love and cheer. They repeated this process for days my dad says. I'm sure he had to have known this Lt. .
