Grey Templeton

Craig Jones
I want to apologize for not posting something here on the forum about Grey Temps passing.  I did post something on the Seawolf Facebook page.  Grey and I flew together on Det-6 in 69/70.  I don't remember if he left before me or if i left first.  I do remember that he was on det when I got there and he and Sunny Lay taught me a great deal.  Grey was a somewhat quiet man while on det.  He seemed just a bit shy but when it came time to mix it up in combat, Grey was one of the best.  He kicked some serious butt.  Wish I would have stayed in touch with him all these years, but I became somewhat of a recluse.  May he rest in peace.  I have several photos of him in my collection "Craig Jones Det 6 Collection".  He is the one cutting the tops out of the 55 gal drums with a fire axe.  He was one hell of a likeable guy.

Reading about Grey here Craig, I realized that four gunners that I flew with on Det 6 have also passed away...Makes me aware how good it is to go to a reunion and have a few days of the old stuff with all the men I knew, as well as, meeting new old guys, such as yourself, (hah)..memories brother.!!...Sad to hear of Grey pass'n, yet good to hear that you crossed trails and gun'd together, a bond, that I know well... We small few...see yah down Branson way amigo...

I went to his service.  He has four sisters living and I talked with all of them.  They were pleased that we cared enough to come.

I was told that Grey was a man of few words about his service.  He was the past leader of the Honor Guard at an American Legion Post here and they turned out in force.  It was said that he built this Honor Guard into a very active unit.

Guards were posted at his head and foot.

There was a pretty good article in the local paper about Grey and his service to locals.  The article noted that Gray had completed more than 6,000 hours of volunteer time in the area over the years.

Rest in Peace Brother,

After looking at Craig's pix again...it's funny how a few months on Det was like an eternity in time.  I'm pretty sure I came to SOD after Craig left, Mr. Beck was just being replaced by Mr. Peeples, and Temp came back to BT about a week or so before I went to Det 6.  I met Grey in BT.  It was the same time Red was in BT for blood poisoning.

Damn proud to say I flew with several from this post, but not Grey or Craig.
