Free Lunch

Russell
After John's service Sandra and I stopped at a Cracker Barrel in Houston for lunch before driving home.  When we went in I was still wearing my RFTW vest.  My vest carries patches from California to Washington DC.  It all also has many with Viet Nam as the topic.  When I stepped to the register to pay I heard some next and to the say "I have that sir."  He finally made me to understand that he intended to pay for my wife's and mine lunch.I politely explained that he was not paying for our he asked me to please allow him to be able to say thank you for my service and show his respect for that service by buying my dinner.  It was lunch time and there was a crowd, so it was time to make a decision and move.

I visited with him for a minute after he had paid my check.  The young man was probably close to 30, clean cut and looked me in the as he shook my hand and thanked me again for my service.  As we parted the young lady with him told me that her father was a Viet Nam vet.

Never had anything like that happen before.  One hell of an honor.  Guys, Welcome Home.
