**03** Found DAT Seawolf James Tillman GAY, AKC, Maintenance, Vung Tau, 7/19/1968 to 12/15/1968. This was a real hard one to find!
James was actually born James Tillman HAND!
Social Security shows he changed name in May 1942 to Tillman GAY (after Step-Father), then Apr 1946 to James T. GAY.
James joined the Navy in San Diego 1/15/1944 as a Signalman and got out 1/21/1946. Enlisted again 11/27/1950 as Storekeeper at NAS Spokane, WA.
He was a Veteran of WWII, KOREA and VIETNAM. Retired in 1975 (with broken service) as AKC.
Confirmed it was him with SSN in Navy Awards site which shows receiving Navy Achievement Medal (Combat V) for timeframe of his tour which was also listed in 1969 Squadron History (Awards)

Naples, Italy circa 1958
Naples Italy circa 1958
