DAT Seawolf Thomas Jordan WILLIAMS, AE1, Maintenance, Vung Tau/Binh Thuy, 07/26/1968 to 6/30/1969.
There is an unfortunate story behind this:In Oct 2011, I had found a Member Name of "Williams T" & Name “Tom Williams” on an old 11/2002 Association Roster as LIFE Member with address & phone# in Oregon, and because we only had one Thomas Williams in HA(L)-3, assumed it was him. He wasn’t on any of the latest Rosters, so I marked him as “LOST”.
As I was building my State Email list for Oregon, I noticed that his address & Ph# was the same as another Williams in Vale, OR, who I did know of. I went back and checked the old rosters that I had after 11/2002, and on the next 2006 Roster I had a copy of, his First Name had changed to “L.T.” Williams and I knew who that was, and that Thomas J. Williams had not been found yet!
I searched and found a Thomas J Williams at the age I was looking for, who had passed away in 2005 and headstone had a Navy Officer Crest emblem on it which threw me off, but I then found a family member who confirmed it was the one I was looking for. Not sure why the Navy Officer Crest, as he retired as AE1 transferring to Fleet Reserve when he left HA(L)-3. Probably whoever made the (Non-VA) headstone didn’t know the difference.

While also building my State Email List for Texas, I tried contacting
LIFE Member Seawolf Frederick Oscar Chaney, Jr., AMH2, Maintenance, Vung Tau, 12/02/1967 to 11/04/1968, (Retired as AMH1) to see if he had an Email address. Neither of the two numbers I had for him were good, so I began a search and found that all possible relatives I could find also had bad numbers. I found that he had passed away 4 years ago in 2015, after finding a headstone. Turns out he was divorced, so was living at the address alone, and could find no other family members.

Of our
2,556 confirmed Seawolf names, 196 Seawolves still left to be found, which includes 15 Enlisted Plank Owners.
