The flowers were there and at the wake ---- Miss Maggie was very vocal about them Tuesday evening --- Wed, she was a bit overloaded as we know ---- Frank Butler was well known by many in his area. Det 8 did a great job "training" him In attendance, Pat Semal, Mike Connally and his wife (both well presented in their uniforms), Tom Decker, Jerry Schmitt, Bud Barnes and myself. ------ (Jerry was there Tuesday evening) States represented,--- Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. Tommy and Jerry flew with Frank on Det 8. At the end of the services, Amazing Grace was played --- at this time all 5 Seawolves in attendance stood and advanced to the front of the church where each individually slow saluted a shipmate, then turned to Mrs Butler and each presented her with a Seawolf pin , and saluted her also. Fittingly, Tommy Decker was the last to bid CDR Butler goodbye. Tommy and Frank had flown many missions together, and had a huge respect for each other. Well Done Seawolves.
footnote, A 2 star reserve ADM was also in attendance -- he has been recalled to active duty, and will be getting the 3rd star --- his job is involving the reserves and their capabilities ----- it is interesting that he already is anticipating reactivating the Red Wolves . I showed him our "trailer" -- he copied the address and brought it up on his computer, and went through our site as well ..... I added, to his amazement, that 2 dormitories in Norfolk are named after our gunners, as well as 2 more buildings in Pensa Cola after Adm DeLaney and Bazan ......... we'll see --- I know which one I hope is the POTUS !!
