Anthony Anderson, age 72, of New Castle, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. A lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan, Anthony was known for his love of the outdoors, spending countless hours hunting and fishing. His passion for sports extended beyond his personal interests, as he dedicated much of his life to coaching youth baseball, football, and basketball, shaping the lives of many young athletes in his community.
Born to the late Fred and Catherine Anderson, Anthony grew up with a strong sense of duty and service. This led him to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. As a helicopter door gunner, Anthony courageously flew over 540 combat missions, a testament to his bravery and commitment. Anthony was also a member of the Saint Anthony’s club Newcastle Delaware.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Katherine Anderson, and his brother, Fred Anderson Jr.
Anthony is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Carla, who stood by his side through all of life’s challenges and joys. He also leaves behind his sons, Anthony Anderson Jr (Tarra), Greg Anderson and Nick Anderson (Amy), and his daughter, Tina Balogh (Stephen). His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Daija Krygier, Anthony Anderson III, Stephen Balogh, and Dylan Balogh. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Anderson (Pam).
Anthony will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.
A mass will be at held at 11 o’clock on September 4, 2024 at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in New Castle Delaware. Friends may visit the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Burial with Military Honors will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on September 16 at 11 AM.
