Another Seawolf from Missouri has passed

Just got an email from Seawolf Lee Hirschel after he got a letter returned unable to deliver, did some searching and found through Find A Grave, that
Seawolf Billy Jim Barton, ADRC, Maintenance, Binh Thuy, 12/4/1969 to 11/6/1970, passed away on 1/4/2015.

Find A Grave Memorial

We now have 623 confirmed DAT (Died After Tour), (24.37%).

Dan,

How are you doing brother? Just wanted to give you my thoughts on 1 thing. When I was much younger I was invincible or at least I thought so. But now pushing 71 the reality of my eventual demise is more in my thoughts. I assume many other seawolves have the same feeling. The reason I mention this is because it is kind of depressing to read on every email announcing another seawolf passing we now have xxx DAT. If this isn't something that the members specifically want perhaps it would suffice to just make an announcement in the wolfgram when it is published regarding how many DAT we have, that way I only have to be depressed a couple times per year.

Anyway I'm not trying to upset the apple cart brother, just voicing an opinion. See you in San Diego.

Mike, while many of the Wolves may echo your sentiments, a much larger mission is part of Dan's post......  We want all to be aware of the passing of a brother Wolf as soon as possible, as it is also our mission to attend, when possible, the services for our fallen Brothers.  I have attended several services, never fun, but important to the family of the fellow Wolf.  As to the percentage, yes, it is sad to know how many are gone, but personally, I like to have an idea how many of us are left to attend the next get together ......  sadly, we are much the same as the Doolittle Raiders .....  one day, in the not too distant future ............  until then, maybe it also brings awareness to the making sure certain tasks on the "bucket List" are not left undone ...

Both of you make good points.

It is depressing as hell putting out the % of our ranks who have passed on, every time one of us have passed.

As Mike Dobson stated, the main purpose is to let everyone know when a Seawolf has passed as soon as possible, in time for Brother Seawolves to try and attend services for the families, and if they are Association Members in good standing, to give Gary and Barb time to make arrangements for flowers to be sent.

Michael Burns also has a good point. The % passed is also part of my inputs now for the Wolfgrams which can still serve as a reminder to us our time is short and to not only make sure our "bucket lists" are in order, but perhaps make arrangements for some sort of instructions for someone to contact the Association in the event we pass, to prevent happening as in this case, where he passed away two years ago, and we did not know about it.
